Some States like Nevada, Utah, Montana, South Dakota and North Dakota to name a few,
allow semi-trailers to pull an extra trailer behind  requiring much longer scales.  These
100 foot long scales fill that need to weigh the entire semi-trailer and pup on a single
platform.  Split weighing of trucks and trailers are no longer considered legal by the
National Conference of Weights and Measures, hence, requiring the longer scales.  These
scales also are used by operations that do overhead bulk loading intotrucks while the
semi is on the scale.  The back compartments of the trailer can be loaded as the truck
pulls forward allowingthe truck to remain on the scale.  Further automation can even
control the valve gates by the scales indicator on the desired amount of product by weight
to be loaded into the truck.
